When an air conditioning unit is on its way out, purchasing a new one can be a difficult and confusing task. Terry Chapin, an air conditioning customer service and sales representative with Condee Cooling and Electric Inc., works on a daily basis with customers looking into a new purchase. He said that generally, people should know they need a new unit by its age, high utility bills and repair costs, adding that the average life expectancy on any brand of air conditioning unit is between 10 and 15 years.
